To make a high-quality CBD product, specialist equipment is required, as well as expertise in the field and premium hemp plants.
Growing hemp plants is an expensive process in itself, and the brand will need to acquire organic certification – to which they need to hold themselves to incredibly high standards. Their farms will undergo routine inspections, scrutinizing their fertilizer, harvesting methods, and more.
This takes time and money to get right, and they’ll need to train workers to correctly look after their plants.
You might be thinking about choosing a cheaper product that doesn’t use organic hemp plants and premium methods of care, but this will leave you with subpar products full of artificial pesticides and other chemicals.
The hemp is harvested and the manufacturing process then moves on to extracting the CBD. This needs more specialist equipment and operators, and the THC needs to be carefully extracted while preserving the other chemicals.
This entire process is incredibly time-consuming and rather costly to the manufacturer. For them to make a profit, the price of CBD will need to be higher.
2. Landscaping Regulations
When selling products containing hemp, the regulations manufacturers must go through are large. There are plenty of hoops for the manufacturer to jump through just to create products with hemp within them, which all cost time and money.
Since hemp is in the same family as illegal cannabis strains, the growing of it must be monitored closely to ensure that the manufacturer is meeting strict guidelines. These guidelines need to be followed from the moment the hemp is grown to the sale of the final product.
Hemp is not always legally allowed to be used in the creation of CBD products. If this is the case in the manufacturer’s state or country, they’ll need to import the hemp, which significantly costs the manufacturing process.
Again, the higher the manufacturing cost, the higher the markup will need to be to allow the business to make a profit.
3. Lab Testing Costs
Lastly, hemp products need to be taken through lab testing to ensure their quality of the product. This is not only highly encouraged but expensive. Since this is coming out of the manufacturer’s pocket, they’ll need to mark their CBD products higher to make it up.
Many manufacturers also pay extra to be registered with governing bodies, such as the European Industrial Hemp Association (EIHA). This ensures that you can trust the product, and we always recommend that you choose a CBD product registered with an appropriate governing body.
Can You Use Cheap CBD?
There are some good cheap CBD products out there, some of which are cult favorites and sworn by many. However, many cheaper CBD products are unreliable and of a lower quality than the higher-priced products.

The CBD industry is largely unregulated, which allows things like this to happen. Cheaper CBD products can get away with misleading you with inaccurate information. Higher-priced brands will be more trusting.
